Edinburgh is one of the UK’s best-connected cities, with a sophisticated transport and communications network linking it to the rest of Europe and the UK by air, road, rail and sea.
Edinburgh is home to Scotland’s busiest airport, Britain’s largest train station outside London and the largest freight port area in Scotland, which means IUMI2023 delegates have many options arriving at destination Edinburgh!
Visa
You may need a visa to come into the UK, depending on your nationality. Information on visitor visas and how to apply for one can be found on the UK Border Agency website.
Delegates must be registered and have paid in full for the conference before applying for a Visa invitation letter. Invitation letters can be requested when submitting the registration form.
By Air
Edinburgh Airport is an award-winning airport and Scotland’s busiest, serving over 150 worldwide destinations. There are frequent direct flights from London and from main international hubs including Amsterdam, Dublin, Paris, Geneva and Frankfurt, and direct long-haul services to the USA, Canada and the Middle East.
The journey from the airport to the city centre is only 8 miles (12km) with frequent connecting services by Airlink bus, tram or taxi and a journey time of approximately 30 minutes.

By Rail
For delegates travelling to Edinburgh by rail, there are two city centre train stations, Edinburgh Waverley and Edinburgh Haymarket, which are linked to all major cities and airports in Britain, with a high-speed link from London in just over four hours.

Local Travel
Once you arrive in the city, again there are several options with Council licensed taxi operators, an award-winning public bus service operating a frequent timetable and Edinburgh’s modern tram system which provides a smooth, fast, high capacity service and has made a positive contribution to the city’s natural environment with zero on-street carbon emissions. Travel Discounts
