ESG Partner of IUMI 2023

IUMI delegates have contributed towards 21 diverse grants in 2023 including projects that:

• Engage children and young people with the marine environment. Our grants support teachers and pupils to take an active role cleaning up their coastlines and engaging the wider community in conservation issues.

• Research and monitor threats to UK marine life. E.g., Cumbria Wildlife Trust will undertake surveys using Sea-Changers funded equipment. They aim to better understand the marine life and coastal habitats found in Cumbria. This research will inform future protection and best management practice of this vulnerable habitat in the North-West, and beyond.

• Clean up marine and coastal habitats. Several grants focus on removing ghost fishing gear. E.g. Journey Blue provide fishermen access to a free fishnet waste disposal facility, and partner directly with harbours and ports along the East Coast to provide a positive solution for end-of-life fishing gear. Our grant funds a new container to add to their current collection sites on the North Yorkshire Coast.
