Networking Events

After busy days in conference sessions, you can relax and enjoy the networking events we are planning at some of Edinburgh’s most iconic locations.  Here is some information to whet your appetite and to help you pack appropriately.

Sunday Evening – Welcome Reception at Edinburgh Castle

Kindly sponsored by Guy Carpenter

Edinburgh Castle, ‘Defender of the Nation’, is one of the most exciting historic sites in Western Europe. Set in the heart of the city, it will capture your imagination – and the scenery will take your breath away.

On arrival, you will walk up Castle Hill at your leisure, with exclusive access to the highlights such as the Prison, St Margaret’s Chapel, the One O’Clock Gun, the Great Hall, Royal Apartments, Castle Vaults and Scottish Crown Jewels.  Guides will bring to life the history of the Castle with exciting tales of its time as a military fortress, royal residence, and prison of war.

You will be outside, walking on cobbled streets so please wear weatherproof clothing (umbrellas will be provided but fingers crossed we won’t need them!) and comfortable shoes.

Drinks and bowl food supper will be served in the banqueting hall and courtyard at the top of Castle Hill, with 360-degree views over the city and the Firth of Forth beyond.   The evening is designed to be informal, an opportunity to network in a memorable, historic setting.   Edinburgh Castle is rarely available for private hire so this is truly a one-off event for IUMI delegates and the evening’s hosts.

Wednesday – Scottish Evening at the
National Museum of Scotland

Kindly sponsored by Aon

The National Museum of Scotland is the cultural centre of Edinburgh in the Old Town.

On arrival, you will enjoy a drinks reception in the Hawthornden Court and a self-guided walk through the Kingdom of the Scots Gallery to explore Scotland’s history.

Dinner will be a seated, 4 course meal with wines, served in the spectacular Grand Gallery which houses some of the Museum’s most important exhibits.

After dinner, you will enjoy the rousing performance of the famous Red Hot Chilli Pipers before you are invited to take to the floor for Scottish dancing to our ceilidh band.  Once you have mastered the Gay Gordons and the Dashing White Sargent, the DJ will take over for more contemporary dancing for the rest of the evening and a bar will be open throughout.
