James Cooper

James Cooper is an experienced leader in the insurance industry having held a number of senior management roles, with lead responsibility for: performance management, outwards reinsurance, exposure management, delegated underwriting and underwriting controls.

James is currently Group Managing Director of Astaara, which he helped found in 2019.  Astaara are the leading provider of cyber risk management solutions to the maritime industry offering an integrated approach of insurance and risk management.

James began his insurance career in 2000 working in the Political Risk market. In 2006, James moved to the Munich Re marine syndicate to support the Active Underwriters in delivering the business plan by improving the understanding of the different dynamics across the portfolio, as well as being the project manager for M&A activities.

Since 2012 James has been an ExCo member, building and managing the underwriting management functions for two Lloyd’s managing agencies and led the design and approval of the business plan for a new Lloyd’s syndicate.
